Choosing the perfect venue is one of the most exciting steps in wedding planning. It sets the tone for your big day and plays a pivotal role in bringing your vision to life. With so many beautiful options available, it can be challenging to know exactly what to ask before making your decision. To help you narrow down your choice and ensure you’re fully prepared, we’ve compiled a list of 10 essential questions to ask during your venue tour, along with answering the top questions for Park Home Ranch Venue.
1. What Dates Are Available?
If you have a specific wedding date in mind, start by checking its availability. If your date is flexible, inquire about options during your preferred season. If you can, have a few dates in mind that will work just in case your venue is not available. Try to stay flexible throughout the wedding planning process. Popular venues can book up quickly, especially during peak wedding months, so it's best to lock in your date as early as possible.
We still have 2025 wedding dates available, along with 2026! Contact us at events@parkranch.com to inquire about your preferred wedding date.
2. What Is the Venue’s Capacity?
Knowing how many guests the venue can comfortably accommodate is crucial. Whether you’re planning an intimate gathering or a grand celebration, make sure the space aligns with your guest list. At Park Home Ranch, our barn and surrounding property offer ample room for both small and large weddings, with options to utilize indoor and outdoor spaces. We offer bookings for microweddings as well if you’re looking for a truly intimate affair.
3. What Is Included in the Venue Rental?
Venues can vary widely in what they provide. Ask about what’s included in the rental fee—tables, chairs, lighting, decor, and even setup and teardown services. Knowing what’s provided will help you plan your budget, avoid surprises, and coordinate with outside vendors. Everything provided at Park Home Ranch Venue is listed here in our Welcome Packet.
4. Are There Preferred or Required Vendors?
Some venues have a list of preferred vendors, while others may require you to use specific caterers or coordinators. At Park Home Ranch, we partner with trusted vendors to ensure your day is seamless, but we’re also open to accommodating your unique preferences. We do require the booking of one of our preferred Day of Coordinators, as they know the venue inside and out and will guide you through a seamless wedding day at the barn.
5. What Are the Venue’s Policies on Decor?
Every venue has its rules, especially when it comes to decorating. Clarify what’s allowed so you can plan your decor accordingly. We do not allow the use of open flames, sparklers, balloons, and confetti, as they pose a risk to our historic barn and our surrounding animals. You can learn more about our policy here.
6. What Is the Backup Plan for Bad Weather?
Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but weather can be unpredictable- especially in the Carson Valley! It’s essential to understand the venue’s contingency plans. At Park Home Ranch, we recommend considering the time of year and provide flexible options for transitioning your ceremony or reception indoors if needed. Rental tents are a great way to maximize the use of space on our property to provide more than one covered option for your ceremony and reception.
7. What Is the Parking Situation?
Ensure there’s ample parking for your guests, and ask if the venue provides signage to direct vehicles. Also, check whether the venue accommodates special transportation needs, such as shuttle buses or ride-sharing drop-off areas. We provide amble parking space for all your guests- just forewarn guests that it is a dirt road! We are a barn, after all.
8. What Are the Noise and Time Restrictions?
Many venues have local regulations regarding noise levels and event end times. Confirm these details to avoid disruptions during your celebration. At Park Home Ranch, we balance the relaxed country setting with respect for local guidelines to ensure a memorable event.
9. Do You Offer On-Site Coordination?
At Park Home Ranch Venue, we require each couple to book one of our preferred Day of Coordinators for their big day. We trust our preferred vendors to ensure a beautiful wedding day at the barn, as they are familiar with the space, accommodations, and our staff. A coordinator will help take stress off you, your maid of honor, and your family so that everyone can enjoy the day without worrying about who is taking care of what.
10. When Can We Access the Venue for Setup and Teardown?
Understanding the timeline for setting up and tearing down will help you plan the day’s logistics. Some venues offer access the day before for setup, while others only allow a limited window on the day of the event. At Park Home Ranch, we work closely with couples to ensure they have the time they need to create their dream day within our preferred hours. This is something that is great to be informed about for your vision, but your Day of Coordinator will work closely with you and the venue to work out the details.
Asking the right questions can help you feel confident in your venue choice and ensure it aligns with your wedding vision. At Park Home Ranch, we take pride in offering a seamless, stress-free experience for our couples.
